For grant seekers

The problems Civitates seeks to solve are complex, requiring long-term commitment to create lasting change. We select our grantees thoughtfully, consistently evaluate our progress, and adjust strategies when needed. Our resources are small compared to these challenges, so we are unable to fund all requests we receive.

Whenever Civitates has a funding round, the Request for Proposals will be published on this page as well as distributed through various channels.

Please subscribe to our mailing list to remain up to date.

For each Request for Proposals, you will find specific instructions for submitting a funding request, including information about what activities could be funded or not, the geographic scope, and frequently asked questions. Before submitting your request, please review the strategic goals and geographic focus of your interest area.

Applying for a grant from Civitates does not restrict you from applying for grants from one of Civitates’ partner foundations.

Supporting independent public-interest journalism in Europe

The deadline has passed. The applications are currently being evaluated.

All the details

The fund will provide multi-year commitments for general operating support and the institutional strengthening of its grantee partners to build more durable, more resilient, more networked, and more impactful public interest journalism organisations in Europe.

In addition to strengthening specific organizations, Civitates will connect its grantee partners, encouraging them to learn and grow stronger together. This network effect is an essential element of this line of work and grantee partners are expected to play an active role in it.
