There are many ways in which donors collaborate to advance their work in a particular field or issue. For example, they might learn together as a group, align their funding, or even pool their financial resources to increase their impact.
Civitates serves as a robust funder platform for donors to invest collectively in European democracies. This approach allows donors to build on the lessons learned from the field and creates opportunities for the development of a common philanthropic agenda on the issues addressed by Civitates. If you are curious about or interested in joining Civitates, please reach out.
We want to allow organisations to get in touch with us in a way that is quick and simple. The Civitates team is small and can only review short spontaneous requests. Civitates works both with closed and open calls but this is an open channel to reach out to us.
No, it is not necessary, we keep track of the organisations we have funded and are in touch with. This space is intended for organisations and initiatives, with which we have not been in touch and that might not have access to events or fora where we are usually present. If you are a current or former Civitates grantee, just get in touch with your contact person at the Civitates Secretariat.
We commit to follow up within 4 weeks with organisations that are strongly aligned with our strategy. We will either write to you to request additional information or set up a call to get to know each other better.
We recognise that not everyone is comfortable writing in English so, if you really are not at ease, you can use another language.
In our team we speak English, French, Spanish, Italian and Hungarian. For all other languages, we will use automatic translation tools for your message and your website or if we are really struggling, we will reach out to you. In any case we ask you to keep it simple and short. If we follow up we will do it in English or in one of the languages we speak.
Finally, please consider that if we fund you, the documentation will have to be in English.
We are a small team working across the EU. We want this space to be manageable in order to follow up with organisations that have a good chance to get support from us and we know that there will always be more requests than funding available. Replying to every submission could quickly become impossible.
Absolutely not. It is more likely that we are prioritising different issues or geographic areas at the moment or that we simply have already used the budget for the year. We have limited funding and we try to avoid spreading too thinly. We try to be as open as possible about our funding priorities so keep an eye on our website and newsletter for updates on what we are funding and plan to fund.
Yes you can, but only if the nature of your work has changed significantly.
Absolutely, if you think your organisation is a good candidate.
We delete information after 2 years. In any case you can ask to delete your information at any given time by writing to secretariat@civitates-eu.org.
After a successful trial until December 2024. we have decided to make this section a permanent feature of our website. This space has proven useful in engaging with civil society organisations outside of our calls for proposals. For any feedback or suggestion you can email us at secretariat@civitates-eu.org.
