Civitates supports civil society organisations who are working to strengthen the key pillars of democracy in Europe: independent public interest media, a thriving civil society, and a digital sphere which promotes rather than harms democratic values. We do this through grant-making, capacity development, knowledge support and connecting different organisations and individuals across borders and areas of expertise.

Civitates creates numerous opportunities for grantees

Ability to strategically engage with and learn from other Civitates grantee partners (cohort approach).
Security of funding for at least two years and up to five years (for core grants).
Light application and reporting processes.
Easy access to grant officers at the Civitates Secretariat to discuss trends, needs and challenges during the course of the grant.
Exposure to and legitimacy with Civitates’ foundation partners.
Access to a network of alumni following the end of a funding relationship.
